CHICAGO, IL (September 28th, 2021) – Chicago House Athletic Club, Chicago’s new professional independent soccer club, today announced a unique partnership with local independent bookstore, Bookie’s New and Used Books.

In addition to helping support Chicago House’s new community reading and literacy programs, Bookie’s will also become the first bookstore in the nation to create a ‘popup’ bookstore to encourage reading and literacy during Chicago House AC NISA home matches at SeatGeek Stadium starting during the club’s upcoming October home fixtures.

In addition to setting up the matchday bookstore, Bookie’s two Chicago locations in Homewood and Beverly, Chicago will act as venues in support of Chicago House AC’s book reading program which will feature appearances and readings with House players.

“I've been excited to experience Chicago House AC’s development from concept to reality,” explains Bookie’s owner Keith Lewis. “As I've watched, it's become clear that the Chicago House message of inclusion, social justice, community, diversity, and literacy has matched with that of my stores. Growing up in the era of Chicago House music sealed the deal. I couldn’t resist connecting my stores to this team.”

“I’ve known Keith for decades and appreciate his support for children’s literacy as well as pro soccer,” said Chicago House AC’s Managing Partner, President & CEO, Peter Wilt, welcoming the new community partnership with Bookie’s. “Chicago House is thrilled to work with these great independent bookstores to grow interest in reading.”

Chicago’s inaugural NISA Fall 2021 Season continues with home match-ups at SeatGeek Stadium against San Diego 1904 FC (10/9), Chattanooga FC (Wed, 10/13), Maryland Bobcats (10/23), LA Force (11/6), Stumptown AC (11/13) and California United Strikers FC (10/20).

ABOUT Bookies New & Used Books

Bookie’s New and Used Books has been selling books on the South Side since 1989. It is a treasure trove of books from out-of-print titles to the newest bestsellers. Owner Keith Lewis devoted 10 years to Chicago Public Schools, working at Chicago Vocational, Bowen and then Al Raby high schools before taking over Bookies in 2015. The store has expanded and now operates in two locations – Homewood and Beverly, Chicago. Bookie’s began as a used books shop. Now new books have taken over as the store’s best sellers. Children’s books, literary fiction and cookbooks bring in the most receipts in Homewood, while mysteries, literary fiction, and kids’ books -- in that order -- are the rage in Beverly. Patrons are encouraged to bring in gently used books. In return, they receive store credit. The back room of Bookie's provides a comfortable setting for Children's books, among the most popular at the Homewood location. The shop is a member of three independent bookstore organizations, each of which offers recommendations and two of which release holiday catalogs to help shoppers make purchasing decisions.
