HOUSE BEATS EDGEWATER 3-2 IN EXTRA TIME & Advances to US Open Cup Qualifying 2nd Round
Elmhurst, Illinois, October 11, 2024 – Chicago House AC scored deep into extra time Saturday to beat Midwest Premier League rival Edgewater Castle 3-2 in the 1st round of 2025 Lamar Hunt US Open Cup Qualifying. The win advances House to the 2nd round away against Chicago Strikers at College of DuPage, Saturday, October 26 at 7 pm CT. Tickets available at the gate. House will need to win four matches total to qualify for the US Open Cup tournament proper for a third straight season.
Forward Alejandro Mentasti scored two first half goals for House. The game winner came on an Edgewater Castle own goal off a rebound from a cross by Captain AR Smith. House forward Ugochukwu Achara was pressing a Rooks defender that led to the ball rebounding into the back of the goal in the 112th minute of play.
Head Coach Shannon Seymour told Adnan Basic of The Protagonist after the game that he was pleased with his team’s result. “It feels amazing. We do it in odd fashion always, we throw in some curveballs for the fans to make it exciting I guess, but the boys fought hard. They never gave up. You could see even when we went down a man late,” Seymour said.
